Moving again.

Ok, new house rented... Hamac setup. Waiting for the internet, again: since the cable operator does not cover the new home, we had to break our contract with them, and have it the Telmex way. Telmex being the leading provider in pretty much every forms of communication (landlines, cellphones, satellites, ...) in Mexico with an abusive monopoly, and prices. meh.

At the moment, I'm sitting in a public library where the net is free, and I can plug my laptop all day long. However, I'm so fond of a few coffees around there, that I can't really stay all day long. Caffeine levels must stay high. :)

Back to a civilized time zone

I'm finally back to a more civilized timezone! ... and enjoying the fine weather here in Oaxaca. Not sure how long I'll stay, a few months, or years. The place is fine, I can work in a calm environment, and "get things done" faster, or so it seems. This morning I had to route the whole internet through a VPN though since my usual morning coffee shop's wifi seems borked. I blame their cable operator which only let me through google or slashdot... meh. I guess these are the road-warrior's little troubles.

Friends are already booking their holidays to Mexico, which is a surprise to me. I didn't think I'd see them again before I got back to France: how pessimist can I be, huh? :)

Anyway, expect more updates once I get my own internet access at home.

Things to do before...

I should find a guide for people relocating to another country, and more precisely "leaving France". There's so much to be done before the end of september, it seems I only add things to my todo list right now. On the "done" front, I'll be without a home at the end of september (which is good news!), and I think I sold almost everything I wanted gone ; now I only need to stash a few things (books, clothes, porn collection, etc.) at my parents' place, or wherever they'd be marginally safe.

Now's the time when I wonder... where I can have my backup-box stored too? It slept at home, gently streaming audio to pulse, or quietly activating at times to rsync with a handful of boxes, but that would be a pain between France and Mexico. That's if I did found a safe place with broadband network to store it too! And I won't travel with 4Tb of data in my pockets. Ideas?

Oh yeah, I should get dressed and go to work. Gotta throw more javascript at that crazy UI thing we're doing for a major french TV group. :)

Back from mexico

So I'm back to France. It's hot, and warm, and the weather's all nice, and the people too. I'm glad to see some friends. The first thing I noticed, is how calm this city seems, really. Barely a noise, less people in the streets or around public places ranting about politics, no one's trying to play you music in bars. No jukeboxes, since we don't have cantinas to start with. The cars here are more efficient I guess, and less noisy, and adapted to their tiny environment. Oh yeah, streets are really fucking small here. More ads, more neons, stupidly high prices, and less mezcal.

So yeah, I miss Mexico. I'm gonna scheme an escape plan soon, first I need to get rid of some things at my place, and hang that hamac somewhere.

Oaxaca again?

Oaxaca, Oaxaca has landed. It's a small (incomplete) jekyll powered blog, where I'll post updates and pictures mostly for friends and family. If you're into that, check it out. It's in french since my parents, and most of my relatives, do not read Shakespeare's mother tongue quite as well as you (probably) do.

Also, I should mention that I am officially in love with jekyll's simplicity. :)

Kisses from Oaxaca

It's been 6 days since I took off from France... What can I say about Mexico? It's great. In some ways it is like I thought it would be, with a good deal of surprises, and discoveries too. I don't like very much what I have seen of Mexico City, although I did not spend an awful lot of time there, and will be staying around Oaxaca a lot more... Oaxaca's definitely my cup of tea. My spanish's still bad but improving. I've already tasted a few types of mezcals from here and there, learned that the tourist season is expected soon, and and whole lot of other stuff I don't want to explain for lack of time or motivation to write everything down here. :)

When I'm less lazy I'll post a bunch of photos on a jekyll log for those who want them. I'll keep you posted on that, don't worry.

I guess it's already "tomorrow" in Paris, so I'll let you to your pillows. Hopefully we'll meet again in may. ;)

outside in

What's up? Well, on my side of this blog not much. 2010 is finally dying, and I've been considering doing a few silly things to celebrate, like selling some of my stuff (in order to make some room for myself). Let's say it's a resolution for 2011. For example, I do not depend on my TV to get news, or... watch TV. Let's sell the stupid thing already. On the other hand, I hate new-year's resolutions, so let's call it a challenge. The latter is much more likely to make my lazy ass do it.

Since I'm talking about my place, I have to admit that I need to fill my fridge, since he's been almost empty since I got back from the traditional family diners of December (it's been almost a week). However, I keep discovering (surprise!) more excuses to bury my stupid-self under piles of work... so empty the fridge remains.

The good news, is that I'm spending 3 months in Mexico starting in February 2011. I'm still not sure if it's a great idea, since the place is damn far. But I'm quite sure, on the other hand, that I have to get away from my little world for a while, to check out what's happening somewhere else. To put it simply, I'm bored: I need a bigger horizon, or at the very least: distraction.

Let's see how tele-commuting works out for me. :)
